I’m running for state representative in the 41st Kansas House District. So, here's where I come from politically. My sister, bless her little liberal (but sensible) heart, thinks that Republicans and Democrats are basically the same: all bad. I’m pretty (?) sure she’d vote for me, and she had sense enough to see through Obama from the get-go. But she’s wrong about the two parties being the same. We are different.

There have always been so-called progressive, big government people. (Notice how they always have to think up some euphemism for socialist.)  Back in the American Revolution, we called them Tories and most of them fled to Canada (perhaps not a bad idea). Today we call them Democrats. Fortunately the forces of liberty prevailed and we got the Declaration of Independence:
           "We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal, that they are endowed
            by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, … Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

It seems crystal clear, but would you believe that the Democrats had to have their own bipartisan version “The Declaration of Dependence”:
           "We hold these talking points to be evident only to lawyers, that all men, women, gays,
           lesbians, transgenders, and species are created equal, that they are endowed by their
           government with certain negotiable rights, life (unless they’re not born yet or they’re
           of no use to the State), Liberty (unless you’re one of those pesky right wingers with principles
           spouting misinformation about our beloved leaders) and guaranteed Happiness (or else)."

If you’re lucky, you remember President Reagan.   He liked to say the scariest sentence in the English language is "I'm from the government, and I'm here to help you."

We just had a political earthquake in Massachusetts (of all places). The brainiacs and politicians have talked to death what it means. But I can tell you the message from Massachusetts: “ENOUGH ALREADY! STOP IT!  We’ve had enough. Politicians are not smarter than citizens. We don’t need government telling us what’s good for us.” So, with all due respect to Ronald Reagan, the scariest sentence of all is “I’m a politician and I want to solve problems and get things done.”

If I could have one prayer, it would be “Heaven, save us from politicians with ideas.” Most of their ideas are bad. The things they want to “fix” aren’t or can’t be fixed by government-only made worse. AND they never stop doing the things that make stuff worse. They just try harder and keep throwing good money after bad.

ENOUGH ALREADY!

Here’s a little story that illustrates the difference between Republicans and Democrats:
There’s a real catastrophe in Haiti. The Democrat solution is to talk about compassion and hope the government takes care things. Here’s a Republican solution. Sandra Bohne (who is the great Republican running in a neighboring Kansas House district) probably won’t tell you this, but I will. Her son Will saw the crisis in Haiti and went there to provide on the ground help to the folks who need it most. There’s the difference: Democrats feel and talk. Republicans think and act. We need legislators who know that most problems in life have to be solved by individuals. When we lose sight of that fact, we are going down a dangerous road from freedom to tyranny. So, freedom from government is why I’m running against Marti Crow, who is the embodiment of Big Mother Democrat “I know what’s good for you” government.
